This makes a larger cake than the other recipe, which is an 8″ x 8″. This serves a bigger crowd but is just as good.
Preheat oven to 350°.
Ingredients
- 4 ½ cups flour
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 3 tsp baking soda
- 9 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 Tbsp vinegar
- 3 tsp vanilla
- 15 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 cups cold water
Directions:
Sift all dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
Make 3 wells and add:
- 1st well: oil
- 2nd well: vanilla
- 3rd well: vinegar
Pour cold water over all ingredients and mix with fork until all dry ingredients are wet. **There will be lumps. Don’t try to mix them out or you will toughen the batter.**
Bake 30 – 40 minutes (start with 30 and work your way up if the center is not done) or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.
Cool & serve warm, sprinkled with powdered sugar.
