As my children have grown older, I’ve occasionally contemplated putting together a book of family recipes for each of them to carry into their new lives. The comfort of familiar, favorite foods is inexpressible as life carries one down new paths and into unknown futures.

The prospect of compiling a book for each of them was daunting, and I’ve come close to completing it several times only to get tired of it and stop. But an online recipe book where I could add new favorites and which could be accessed by any family member or friend seemed to be the best answer.

Some of these recipes were dishes I grew up eating, and are now favorites of my husband, children, and friends. You’re not going to find any haute French cuisine in these pages. This is down-home American cooking from a city girl raised by a Missouri-born, grit-eating mom.
